Euroclear EasyFocus+ a collaborative exception management platform enabled by market data

EasyFocus®+ is our innovative and ground-breaking settlement efficiency platform, taking Euroclear’s universe of settlement data, analysing and enriching it using AI to re-write the settlement story. Learning from our existing EasyFocus product, shaped by client feedback and our settlement efficiency initiative, EasyFocus+ is a new cloud-based platform, more accessible, packed with new features and due to be launched in late 2025. 

EasyFocus+ converts settlement and matching data into insights and insights into action. 

The end result will be fewer failed transactions, greater settlement efficiency and lower CSDR penalties overall.

EasyFocus+ has access to Euroclear’s universe of settlement data across our local CSDs and our International Central Securities Depository (ICSD). Taken together that’s over 60 percent of trades settling across the EU. More data, better data, keener insights. 

The CSD settlement journey can only begin when we receive settlement instructions, which historically has been a manual process for many market participants. When settlement was T+3 or the current T+2, firms had a full day to solve any operational issues. With the transition to T+1 and more compressed timescales to complete every process, the market will require fundamental change and a much greater emphasis on Straight Through Processing (STP) and automation. Instructions will need to be communicated intra-day and as close to real time following trade execution as operationally feasible. Today, 65% of settlement instructions match on trade date, increasing to 95% by the end of T+1, even though settlement is scheduled for T+2. As part of Euroclear's settlement efficiency initiative we have set a target of ultimately increasing trade date matching to 99%.

By auto-identifying the issue and resolution path, EasyFocus+ saves you time and resources and supports the industry transition to T+1 where issues will need to be resolved intra-day on trade date. Issues are identified earlier and automatically allocated to the right people. It's the faster route to resolution. Intra-day not next day.

EasyFocus+ trend analysis and benchmarking will help identify repetitive issues and processes that will need changing for a smooth T+1 transition. It will help identify which fields consistently fail to match and which counterparties perform less well compared to their peers. EasyFocus+ converts insights into tangible actions, enabling quality improvements (for example in your Standard Settlement Instructions (SSIs)) to prevent future potential mismatches at source.

EasyFocus+ creates a consolidated view of settlement-instruction data across Euroclear and the AI algorithms provide insights on matching finality of your instructions from all the instructions we receive.  

Settlement data is enriched, leveraging our knowledge of millions of similar trades, including your own, helping provide a focus on which pairs need prioritisation for optimal settlement efficiency and lowest costs. Enriched data includes:

  • The matching score – the predictive likelihood that any pending instructions will be matched.
  • The matching quantile – what percentage of similar past trades we would have expected to have matched by the same point and how you are doing against industry norms.
  • The CSDR penalty impact if the trade were to fail.
  • The reason for unmatched and counterparty allegement information.

You will maintain the flexibility to have your own prioritisation criteria but the insights generated by EasyFocus+ will give you a complete picture so that you can make informed decisions.

EasyFocus+ the fastest route to resolution

EasyFocus+ also starts the resolution journey on all unmatched trades using the Taskize Smart Directory, powered by an underlying AI algorithm which first assesses the nature of the issues and then routes your query to the most relevant person at the counterparty organisation, the right person directly, no generic group emails. It’s completely seamless and starts the resolution journey immediately, giving maximum time to fix the problem. 

The Taskize Smart Directory provides easy navigation of unfamiliar organisations, finds people based on what they do, not who they are, The Smart Directory AI engine continuously improves with every interaction, dynamically learning to enhance future matches – ensuring faster, more accurate resolutions over time. 

Finally, Taskize gives full visibility and ownership of pending issues with a complete audit trail, flexibility to create and re-allocate ownership of issues and a flexible dashboard to give real-time oversight of outstanding issues. 

EasyFocus+, easy access

EasyFocus+ is accessed via the Euroclear cloud through a web portal, providing all the safety and security of the Euroclear ecosystem, with no-in house software installation required. Easy access from wherever you have an internet connection, using Meritsoft’s Instruction Tracking and Exception Manager (ITEM) platform with highly configurable dashboards, keeping you in control of the information you want to see. 

EasyFocus+, prevention is better than the cure

EasyFocus+ root cause analysis enables you to drill down to the detail and see where your pinch points are. For example, PSET, the place of settlement is a field that often features in mismatched instructions. Equally, most firms find certain counterparties generate a disproportionate number of mismatches. Armed with this information you can work with counterparties to permanently resolve current structural issues in your respective SSIs. 

With a huge dataset of settlement information EasyFocus+ can also help you benchmark your own settlement performance against industry peers and norms. With both common causes of issues and benchmarking you can focus on the action you need to take to improve your performance.
