Thomas Hansen

Global Head of Securities Finance, Banco Santander CIB

Thomas Hansen is Global Head of Securities Finance at Banco Santander, where he leads the Global Inventory Finance across all asset classes. He joined Santander’s London Branch in 2019, initially heading STM/Securities Finance there, overseeing repo, securities lending, Delta one products, structured product finance, operational liquidity management, and short-term funding. His remit included Ratio/Resource management, Term financing, optimizing collateral across Santander CIB and implementation of digital strategies.

Prior to Santander, Thomas spent 19 years at Credit Suisse in a range of fixed income trading roles, including IRS, bonds, repo, collateral, and liquidity/capital management. He was Head of Trading Risk for FI/Equities Cash and Derivatives in the CS Madrid office and played a pivotal role in launching ISOCO margining and building the firm’s Collateral Optimization function.

Thomas was a member of the LCH PAG from 2007 to 2019 and contributed to key industry initiatives involving blockchain, indices, and trading platforms. He is a member of the London Money Market Association and has served on the ICMA ERCC since 2021, elected Vice Chair in 2023.

He currently co-leads the Trading & Liquidity workstream under the UK T+1 Accelerated Settlement Taskforce and the Securities Lending & Repo workstream under the EU T+1 Industry Committee.
