If you as a private individual trade for example a share in Sweden on for example a regulated market, you normally act via your bank or broker. After the trade in the market is finalised your bank/broker will register your newly acquired shares in a securities account. In Sweden there are two types of securities accounts available where one type, the VPC account, is kept via us and the other type, the custody account, is only kept with your bank/broker.
Even if you as a private individual do hold a VPC account in your name it’s still only your bank/broker (in the role as a so called account operator) that are eligible to administer that account with us. You as a private individual do not have access to open a VPC account directly via us nor log on to access your existing account. That’s only possible to do via your bank/brokeru hos din bank.
Euroclear Sweden is responsible by law for providing a public shareholder register and a public nominee list of owners regarding each CSD-registered company affiliated to it. The public shareholder register and the public nominee list of owners contain shareholders holding more than 500 shares in such CSD-registered company. In addition to keeping these public shareholder registers and public nominee list of owners available to the general public at its premises, the general public is entitled to order, at a charge to cover Euroclear Sweden’s costs, a recent copy of a public shareholder register and / or a public nominee list of owners regarding CSD-registered companies. Euroclear Sweden hereby provides the opportunity to order either a new register (of a certain future date) or a copy of an already produced register, corresponding to the register held available at Euroclear Sweden’s premises (which are not more than 3 months old). The public shareholder register and the public nominee list of owners are two separate registers. The public shareholder register contains information about shareholders and nominees holding its shares on accounts held directly with Euroclear Sweden (top tier level). The public nominee list of owners contains information about shareholders holding its shares on accounts with companies participating as nominees with Euroclear Sweden (next/second level).
